Accommodation
Participants who choose to book their accommodations through the program are lodged in off-campus housing at StayInn Freiburg, where beds in shared double rooms are available. Participants may be asked to house at one of StayInn's other locations depending on availability. Shared accommodation costs 400 € per person, which includes the entire 14 night stay. If you would like additional nights, please inquire with us. If you would like to book housing through the program and would prefer a non-shared room, please also inquire with us.
Participants may also make their own arrangements regarding housing if they wish to do so. Freiburg offers lodging at all price levels. If you choose to make your own arrangements, feel free to check for accommodation on websites such as airbnb.com, booking.com and tripadvisor.com for more information and current deals.
Housing requests are filled in the order they are received; some options might not be available to participants who apply late.
Participants who choose to make their own accommodation arrangements only need to pay for tuition. They are, however, kindly asked to inform the Black Forest Writing Seminars of their Freiburg address and get in touch upon their arrival in Freiburg
Forest Retreat
During the workshop, there is a two-day/one-night stay in a mountain retreat (retreat lodging and meals included in program fee). Here participants house in dormitory-style rooms. (*Single rooms at the hostel-chalet may be available upon request at an additional charge; please check with us for more information).
Classes are hosted by the University of Freiburg.
A bustling university town, Freiburg provides a wealth of restaurants, cafes, pubs and imbiss options: something for every taste and budget. Favorite cafés and restaurants include Schlossbergrestaurant Dattler, Warsteiner Galerie, Hotel Oberkirchs Weinstuben, Jos Fritz Café, Haslacher Hof, Zum Roten Bären, and many more. The region is famous for its Schwarzwälder Kirschtorte, or Black Forest Cake, and visitors of Freiburg should make sure to try a piece of cheesecake from Stefans Käsekuchen at the Münster Market. The Münster Market is a daily farmer's market taking place right next to Freiburg's landmark, the beautiful cathedral ("Freiburger Münster") just off Freiburg's bustling main shopping street.
